2,300 jaywalking violations in May

Abu Dhabi: As many as 2,300 violations were issued to jaywalkers by Abu Dhabi Police, Traffic and Patrols for crossing streets from undesignated areas.

"This huge number of violations took place from May 1 to May 29. All were issued for violations that occurred very near designated crossing areas such as pedestrian walkways and subways," Colonel Hamad Bin Mubarak Al Ameri, director of the capital's traffic department. said.

The Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols are implementing awareness campaigns on various roads to ensure pedestrian safety and the welfare of the society. Al Ameri appealed to motorists to reduce their speed at pedestrian crossings, in industrial areas, shopping malls and residential areas and to give pedestrians the right of way.
