Baby returned to mother who threw it onto rubbish dump

Ras Al Khaimah: A court has sentenced a mother who left her baby in a rubbish dump to one month in prison suspended for three years, a police source has said.

The source said the presiding judge sentenced the Filipino maid this week, for dumping the newborn baby in a Ras Al Khaimah rubbish bin, and fleeing.

The sentence will be suspended for three years, he said. "If the mother commits any wrong attitudes during these three years, then she will get sentenced again," added the source.

Humanitarian side

The judge said he had felt sorry for the woman and he wanted the baby to stay with his mother to breast feed him and to bring him up, the source said.

The infant was found last May among rubbish in RAK but was in good health.

The infant, which was only a few days old, was taken to Saqar hospital, which is still providing the baby with all necessary requirements. The baby was found by an Asian woman in RAK and went to the police. They then rushed the baby to Saqar hospital where he was examined and given treatment.

The Filipino mother became pregnant following an affair with a man from her country, said the source.
