Dubai: The Indian education board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), announced the results of grade 10 exams on Tuesday evening, putting an end to the anxious wait for results of thousands of students in the country.
It is the first time the results are being announced since the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system (CCE) was introduced by the CBSE last year.
The new report card has two main areas in which students are assessed – scholastic and co-scholastic areas.
Previously the report cards contained only the marks scored in five core subjects and the assessment of three other areas. But now, these three areas have been divided into fifteen categories – such as life skills, attitudes, thinking skills, social skills, literary and scientific skills etc - allowing the students to be assessed more comprehensively.
The report cards that the students will get later from their schools will show the grades they achieved in class 9 as well as class 10.
This year, for the first time, students also had the option of choosing to write exams conducted by their schools or exams conducted by the CBSE. However, many students in the UAE chose to appear for the exam conducted by CBSE, schools said.
The academic areas are graded on a nine-point scale - A1 , A2 , B1,B2,C1,C2,D, E1 and E2. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is then calculated based on the grades. A1 grades are given 10 points, A2 nine points, B1 eight points and so on.
This way, as student who gets A1 grade in all subjects will score a CGPA of 10.
Results of some of the UAE schools obtained by Gulf News so far are –
1.Indian High School, Dubai - Of the 620 students who were presented for the exam, 79 students have scored the A1 grade in all 5 subjects, scoring a CGPA of 10. All students passed. 43 per cent scored a CGPA of 9 and above. 442 students scored a CGPA of 8 and above.
2.Gulf Model School - Out of 67 candidates who appeared for the examination more than 90 per cent have secured A1 in most of the subjects. Four students secured A1 grade in all subjects [CGPA-10 Points].
3.Emirates National School, Sharjah - 203 students appeared for the exam, out of which 19 scored a CGPA of 10.
4.Our Own English High School, Fujairah - 49 students appeared for the exam – 26 boys and 23 girls.Five students scored a CGPA of 10. 37 per cent scored CGPA of 9 and avove.
5.Indian School, Ras AL Khaimah 119 students appeared for th exam, out of which 22 students got CGPA of 10.
6.New Indian Model School, Dubai - 254 students appeared for the examination. 26 students scored CGPA of 10. A total of 41 students secured 9 Grades and above, 88 students scored 8 grades and above and all the rest of the students scored 7 grades and above.
7.Delhi Private School, Dubai - 110 students appeared for the exam. Ten students scored a CGPA of 10. A total of 42 students secured a CGPA between 9 - 9.8.
8. Model School, Abu Dhabi - The first batch of 39 students appeared for the exam. Ten students scored CGPA of 10. Seven students secured A1 in 4 papers (CGPA 9.4 and above.) 23 students of the total 39 students secured CGPA 9 and above.
9. Millennium School, Dubai – Out of the 96 students who appeared, 5 Pupils scored a CGPA of 10. 43 have scored CGPA 9 and above.
10. St Joseph School, Abu Dhabi - 62 students appeared for the examination and ten students scored CGPA of 10.
11. Abu Dhabi Indian School – 320 students appeared for the exam. 38 students scored CGPA of 10, 135 scored CGPA of 9 and above, and 275 scored CGPA of 7 and above.
12. Asian International Private School, Ruwais – Four students achieved CGPA of 10.
13. Indian School, Al Ain - Out of 92 students who appeared for this exam, five scored CGPA of10. Four students scored CGPA of 9.8. 30 per cent of the students have scored CGPA of 9 and above while 50 per cent of the students have scored CGPA of 8 and above.
14. Our Own English High School, Abu Dhabi – 10 per cent of the students achieved CGPA of 10 and 38 per cent secured CGPA of 9 and above while 54 per cent have registered CGPA of 8 and above.
15. Gulf Asian English School, Sharjah - Out of the 106 students who appeared, six scored CGPA of 10 and eight students scored CGPA of 9.8, while six scored CGPA of 9.6.
16. New Indian Model School, Sharjah - 93 students had appeared for the exam. 8 students secured CGPA of 10. Over 25 per cent students secured a CGPA of 9.2 and above.
17. Our Own High School Al Warqa’a, Dubai - 340 boys appeared for the exam. 20.3 per cent students secured above 90 per cent while 91.5 per cent students scored above 60 per cent.
18. Our Own English High School, Al Ain - Out of 47candidates who had appeared for the exam, 6 students scored a CGPA of 10. 53.2 per cent of students scored CGPA of 9 and above.
19. Delhi Private School, Sharjah – 269 students appeared for the exam. Forty-seven students secured a CGPA of 10. 129 students secured a CGPA of above 9. This year, 17.5 per cent of students secured a CGPA of 10 as compared to 2 per cent of students last year.
20. Our Own English High School, Dubai - Of the 343 students 58 secured A1 in all five subjects and 18 students secured A1 in four subjects. A total of 51 per cent scored a CGPA of 9 and above. A total of 75 per cent scored a CGPA of 8 and above.
21. St Mary’s Catholic High School, Fujairah - 36 students appeared for the exam. A total of 31 secured a distinction. Two students scored CGPA of 10.
