UAE charity body to distribute food, dig wells in drought-hit Somalia

Addis Ababa: The Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment and the UAE embassy in Ethiopia held a coordinative meeting on Thursday to chalk out a plan for emergency relief operations in the Horn of Africa.

The Establishment will distribute essential food supplies to alleviate the suffering of the Somali people who fled to the borders of Ehiopia in the wake of the worst famine in half a century in their country.

The Establishment also plans to dig wells for water in the region, in an effort to lessen the hardship brought about by the drought.

The UAE's Ambassador in Addis Ababa, Dr. Yousuf Eisa Hassan Al Sabri, and Deputy Chairman of the Establishment, Councilor Ebrahim Bumelha held discussions to co-ordiante the relief operations and to ensure that the famine victims benefit from the aid, which is in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
