Dubai student shines in British Council contest

Dubai: An Our Own English High School Dubai graduate, Arthy Ravichandran recently entered the British Council's ninth annual International Student Awards and reached the regional finals as a runner up through an inspirational story.

The 21-year-old student shared her well-written account of working hard to pursue her dream to enter the Aeronautical Engineering field.

She mentioned her successes along the way, which included winning various scholarships for academic excellence and getting her dissertation published in a research paper which managed to impress the British Council judging panel to win a place as a runners up.

Opportunity

The competition is a major initiative of the British Council with entries from more than 1,200 students from 118 countries. It gives students the opportunity to share their experiences, stories and contributions to life in the UK.

In addition to the story, international students wrote a personal letter home to explain to family or friends about life in the UK and all the achievements they made. Ravichandran's letter was one of London's best and she received a £100 (Dh607) prize.

She is currently studying Aeronautical Engineering at Islington's City University London and is in her final year. After completing university she plans to join an engineering company in London.
