Cairo: The Supreme Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces has rebuffed reports of any external pressure from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Egypt recently.
In a statement Monday night quoted by Middle East News Agency (MENA), the council said: "The relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt with the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are historical, extended over time and stem from the belief in Egypt's Arab identity and its national role in maintaining the security of the brotherly Gulf countries, as it is an integral part of Egyptian national security."
The Supreme Council of the armed forces in its statement also called on the media to check the authenticity and accuracy of news that may adversely affect the security and interests of Egypt and its brotherly Arab countries.
For his part, Tamer Mansour, Egyptian Ambassador to the UAE confirmed the distinguished relations between Egypt and the UAE, pointing out that the postponement of the visit of Dr Essam Sharaf, Egyptian Prime Minister to the UAE, within the framework of his current Gulf tour, came due to the prior engagements of officials from both sides.
In an interview with Al Arabiya television, the Egyptian Ambassador said: "Relations between the two countries are growing stronger, especially after the revolution, adding that the rumours alleging that Egyptians are now being denied visas and accommodation are not true and this was confirmed by the UAE side."
He pointed out that the rumours are exaggerating individual cases which have its own reasons and that these cases are only 15, and they are not related to the renewal of residence permits or work permits.
