One dead after car falls in water off Jebel Ali port

Dubai: One person died on Saturday when his car fell into the sea in the Jebel Ali port area.

‘The person was dead when the police salvaged the car," said Captain Yahya Mohammad, Head of sea rescue at the Dubai Police Rescue Department.

He said the police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Authorities also reported at least seven near drowning incidents and five maritime accidents in Dubai last week, a police official said.

Most cases happened at night and were caused by non-compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.

The boat was carrying 15 tonnes of cargo.A vessel carrying 250 tonnes of rice sank in the Dubai Creek on Sunday.Police prevented two people from drowning near the beach area off the Burj Al Arab. The victims were rushed to hospitals where they remain in critical condition.
