ABU DHABI // The chairman of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Dr Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, was last night named the new secretary general of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

He replaces Mohammad Ahmad Al Bowardi, who will remain as a member of the council, following two decrees by Sheikh Khalifa, the President, and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, said the official Wam news agency.

Dr Al Mazrouei was already a member of the Executive Council and the Executive Committee. He also holds the position of chairman of the board of Management of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, a post he will retain.

Dr Al Mazrouei was previously the deputy secretary general of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, chairman of Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (Haad) and the chairman of Abu Dhabi's Department of Civil Service.

Mr Al Bowardi, secretary general since 2004, will continue to act as chairman of the Executive Committee, which supports the Executive Council by reviewing emirate-wide policies and strategic plans.

The Executive Council advises the Ruler on managing the running of the emirate.
