Drunken attack: International city groper

A man has confessed to sexually assaulting a Filipina cashier as she was walking home late at night in International City (IC).

Pakistani defendant M.M., a driver, had consumed alcohol before going for a walk in the township.

Victim A.J., 30, said on April 2, she was walking back to her apartment after work when she saw M.M. walking with another man in IC's France Cluster. According to public prosecutors, as they passed each other, M.M. groped A.J. before running away. A.J.'s screams were heard by security officers who caught MM.'s compatriot, who in turn led the police to the defendant. A verdict is expected on May 29.

Safe and sex case: Couple get one year

A couple convicted of stealing a safe with Dh8,750 and items worth over Dh45,000, have been given one year in jail. They were sentenced on Wednesday. Indonesian maid R.R., 33, and her partner W.F., 36, an Egyptian mechanic, were also convicted of having sex outside marriage. R.R. provided her lover with access to her employer's house and informed him of his whereabouts. The couple will be deported after serving their jail term.

Cop imposters : Three held

Three men on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to impersonating police officers and stealing items worth Dh40,000 from a Karama store. The defendants — M.N, 29, a jobless Yemeni; M.A., 30, an Iranian; and Emirati businessman G.S., 45 — denied showing false identification to a salesman at a store in Karama and stealing 270 watches and 11 handbags. A verdict is expected on May 29.
