Liberty Automobiles Unveils Chevrolet Sonic, The All-New Challenger In Small Car Segment

Liberty Automobiles Company, a reputed General Motors dealer, has unveiled the all-new Chevrolet Sonic, the smart entrant in the small car segment which is growing rapidly in the Middle East.

The all-new Sonic was unveiled by John Stadwick, President and Managing Director, General Motors Middle East and Duncan Peat, Managing Director of Liberty Automobiles Company, in the presence of Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi, Chairman of Liberty Investment Company, holding company of Liberty Automobiles, and invitees.

Liberty customers were introduced to the striking features of the Chevrolet Sonic – which include more power, sleek design, enhanced safety, greater comfort, more room and exceptional fuel efficiency – at a fun-filled customer event held at the Liberty Automobiles Chevrolet Showroom in Sharjah. The Sonic comes in two versions: the five-door hatchback and the four-door sedan in a range of attractive colours.

Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi said: “As a long-standing dealer of General Motors, Liberty Automobiles is delighted to present to our customers the all-new Sonic that is set to be a ‘game changer’ in the small car segment. The Sonic clearly demonstrates Chevrolet’s innovative spirit in creating a compact, sporty and youthful car to address new trends in the market.”

The event also saw the launch of the new hatchback version of the popular Chevrolet Cruze. In addition, the 45th Anniversary edition of the Chevrolet Camaro was also showcased to the delight of the guests.

“The launch of Sonic comes at a time when preference for small cars is growing, especially among young people,” said Duncan Peat, Managing Director of Liberty Automobiles. “This is a small car with best-in-class features and great value additions. It is creating a tremendous buzz among consumers and we are confident of enhancing the ownership experience through Liberty’s superior service standards.”

The Chevrolet Sonic is being introduced at a time when car sales have begun to accelerate after a relatively sluggish period triggered by global recession. Liberty Automobiles, which recorded good year-on-year growth, is optimistic about achieving higher volumes in the last quarter and a stronger pickup in sales in 2012.

The Sonic is placed in the small car segment, the sixth largest in the Middle East. This segment is growing at a remarkable pace every year.

Featuring sporty exterior, Sonic appeals to the young and the young-at-heart, especially the five-door hatchback, with its aggressive posture and flowing body lines. The four-door version, which conveys a more mature, upscale feel, is aimed at young families in particular. The Sonic’s 1.6-litre, 115-hp engine gives it strong acceleration, which adds to its appeal.
