Dubai: Residents of Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) are finding it difficult to access their homes, as two of the three entry points to the development have been closed for roadworks.
The development is situated between Emirates Road and Al Khail Road, behind Emirates Hills.
Currently, the only safe exit from JVT is onto Emirates Road, Abu Dhabi-bound. A second exit leading to Al Khail Road and Emirates Road warns residents to use it at their "own risk".
Ash Goddard, a resident of JVT, told Gulf News that this means residents have a long round-trip when they want to leave the development.
"Imagine this, the only direction we can go in from this gate is toward Abu Dhabi where we can choose to do a U-turn at the roundabout or turn toward Jebel Ali. If we are in search of a shop, this access doesn't even take [us] to a petrol station, so a simple shop run for a pint of milk would take over 45 minutes."
Goddard claims to have spoken to the developers, but have not found a solution. Residents have been using a short-cut over sand to get to The Springs development, but have been fined.
"My main fear is that if there is an accident or emergency that needs tending to, it would take the emergency services an unimaginable amount of time to reach us. A time which could very well be too late, God forbid," Goddard said.
Other exits
According to a Nakheel spokesman, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is responsible for the roadworks, which have closed the two other exits.
"The gate to Al Khail Road and the access to Emirates Hills and The Springs are temporarily closed by RTA for construction works that are part of their master plan. However, we have raised our concerns to RTA and currently are in discussions with them to resolve this issue immediately."
A promotional video on the Nakheel website states that Police, Ambulance and Civil Defence station construction will commence soon. However, some access points have been left open for construction vehicles working on the development.
The Jumeirah Village project will be completed in 2013 and will accommodate 300,000, according to Nakheel.
The RTA did not respond to requests for a comment.
