Abu Dhabi: An annual event of the Swiss community in the capital has grown into a festival of Emirati-Swiss friendship.
"The Swiss spring festival in Abu Dhabi is the most important event of the Swiss community. More and more Emiratis are also attending the festival that makes it a true Swiss-Emirati Friendship event," Swiss Ambassador to the UAE, Wolfgang Amadeus Bruelhart, told Gulf News.
He welcomed the guests at the event conducted by the Swiss Business Council in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday evening at Hilton Hotel. The best of Swiss food and musical entertainment were the attractions of the evening.
Special flavour
Sharing insights about Swiss cuisines, Bruelhart said the Raclette Cheese Dish was an eternal favourite of the community. Raclette is a dish of melted cheese served on boiled potatoes or bread, which is a must on all Swiss special occasions.
Addressing the gathering, Jean Marc Suter, president of the Swiss Business Council, said the Swiss community wanted to involve other communities in the celebrations in the capital. "The event reflects Swiss hospitality."
Kurt Blum, a Swiss artist who has been living in the UAE for four years, said the festival helped him feel closer to home. "I feel everything around me is ‘Swiss'. It is a rare feeling when you are abroad."
A Pakistani banker who has been attending the festival regularly said, he was enjoying the "Swiss Quality" at the festival.
"I have noticed the special quality of Swiss people, their culture and food in my long-term association with them," said Imamat H. Naqvi. He said the festival was a nice opportunity to make more Swiss friends.
