Memory key to Quran contest finale

Dubai: The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) continued with its activities of Quran recital competition for the 5th day in a row on Thursday. Some seven competitors Ra'ad Ebrahim Al Abdullah from Iraq, Tanzanian Haji Mujubi Mutuma and Afdhal Hazim from Canada recited the Quran.

Also UAE competitor Ahmad Ali Al Mansouri took part in the recitals, along with Mamdjam Djaw, Abdul Qader Mohammad Gani and Habroghira Ahmad from Burundi.

Visually impaired Abdullah Mohammad Salem, from Qatar also recited the Quran. Ahmad Al Suwaidi, head of the competition unit said that some 78 competitors from 90 countries are participating in the contest.

Al Suwaidi said that only those who can recite by heart are part of the final competition.

Meanwhile, Major General Khamis Mattar Bin Muzeina, Deputy Dubai Chief of Police said that choosing President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the Islamic Personality of the Year is an honour bestowed upon all the people of the UAE, who hold their leader in great esteem.

The Quran contest will continue until the 18th of Ramadan. The final ceremony will be held on the 20th of Ramadan, where the Islamic Personality, the competitors, and the judging committee will be awarded.
